The internationally oriented and transdisciplinary weißensee academy of art berlin combines high-profile art and design courses on a green campus. Committed to the ideas and teaching of the Bauhaus, the university is characterized by the joint artistic-design foundation year for all disciplines as well as excellent working conditions in over 20 workshops and laboratories. With its future-oriented teaching and research, the weißensee academy of art berlin offers its approximately 850 students an excellent, practice-oriented course of study. Against the backdrop of social challenges, students, teachers and alumni of the university contribute to the development of the art and cultural landscape with their projects, research projects and collaborations as well as a variety of events and actively shape current discourses.

Practical training in the more than 20 workshops is at the core of the degree course at Weißensee and is part of the artistic and creative teaching. The workshops work independently, across disciplines and are open to all students and teaching staff. The workshops provide an introduction to basic craft skills, designs are tested on models or objects and students are actively supported in the implementation of their projects.

(E9b TV-L) part-time (0.5) open-ended

As part of the textile workshops, the embroidery workshop is equipped with an industrial machine from ZSK (model Racer 1WL), as well as a Melco machine (model EMT 16 plus) and the software Punch, GIS BasePac and DesignShop.

We are looking for a part-time (0.5) teacher in the artistic workshop teaching of digital embroidery (E9b TV-L) for an indefinite period from 01.09.2026. The position is to be filled with a teaching obligation of 11 LVS.

Your tasks:

  • Management and supervision of the open university workshop area Digital Embroidery.
  • Advising students on the technical feasibility of project work and Bachelor’s and Master’s theses.
  • Realization of their samples, designs and prototypes, in particular motif embroidery and functional embroidery, taking into account current developments in the field of technical textiles and e-textiles in close cooperation with the eLab (interdisciplinary laboratory for interactive technologies), the Soft Rapid Prototyping Lab (Tajima SAI embroidery machine available there) and the other textile workshops.
  • Teaching relevant techniques and processes in the field of embroidery as well as guidance on technological solutions and advice on processing problems.
  • Further development of the workshop and design of workshop courses, taking occupational safety into account.

Your profile:

  • Self-initiative, good technological knowledge as well as a pronounced enthusiasm for technical innovations and interest in dynamic developments in the context of design, art and society
  • Ability to work independently with very good teamwork and communication skills
  • We are looking for applicants who want to actively contribute to an inclusive and discrimination-sensitive teaching and research situation at the weißensee academy of art berlin

Your qualifications:

  • Master craftsman’s certificate or equivalent qualification in the field of textile design or textile technology or at least three years of successful professional experience in this or a related field
  • Comprehensive specialist knowledge of the embroidery craft and digital embroidery techniques (motif embroidery and functional embroidery), in particular in combination with the processing of a wide variety of materials, including conductive yarns, as well as the technical possibilities of computer-aided embroidery machines
  • Proof of pedagogical aptitude, understanding and commitment to the special needs of an artistic university
  • Very good knowledge of German and good written and spoken English
